I created this piece in the early days of the pandemic, after losing both of my sisters—one to cancer, the other to Covid. My heart was raw. The world was in mourning, and so was I. As the Black Lives Matter movement surged and stories of injustice filled the air, I carved the image of a Black woman—an embodiment of grief, strength, and sorrow. Her gold tears, painted by hand, carry the weight of all that was lost and all that was felt. This piece is my cry, my offering, and my witness.
